About the Artist - Susan Torres

Born in Long Island, New York in 1965, Susan Torres has decided to take her chances to pursue her art. A self-taught artist, Susan came from an already creative family of vocalist, musicians and visual artists. Her mother, who was and still is her inspiration, sketched model like beauties and Susan would aspire to be as good as Mom one day.

Like many other artist, she turned to a career in graphic arts and web design to make money as well as to try to fulfill some of her creative desires. But, she was never really fulfilled.

In 1998, a friend gave Susan a suitcase, purchased from a yard sale. The suitcase contained some old oil paints, brushes and canvas paper. So, she decided to try her hand at painting and picked up a paint brush for the first time.

Because at the time, she felt that she could never be a serious artist without the proper training, she painted without commitment and just hung her creations in her home and dreamed. She dreams no more and is now doing what she feels passionate about.

Susan lives in Florida and is inspired by the colorful lifestyle, people and energy of South Beach. Her recent paintings explore the new freedom she's found within and she enjoys painting women and their alto egos.
